Police Officer Salary - $60,000 - $70,000 The is a sworn position with little to no supervisory responsibilities.
Requires one year at previous grade.
POSITION DESCRIPTION Must be able to relate to the public in a courteous m8Dller.
The incumbents uphold and enforce State, County, and City laws and regulations.
The incumbents are critically aware of discerning signs of extra ordinary conditions or circumstances which indicate hazardous criminal potential or criminal activity and reacts quickly and effectively to problem situations observed while working or to messages received over the radio systems.
The officer must analyze these problems situations, make accurate, prompt and effective decisions, sometimes in life-or-death situations, and must take appropriate action.
These situations range in complexity from the disabled motorists to the more complicated robbery in progress, potential or real suicide, a motor vehicle accident, an escaping felon, an emergency, etc Patrols the City in marked and unmarked cruisers, on foot, bicycle, or other means.
Employs a wide variety of tools and technical skills to include problem solving abilities to perform community policing.
In addition, these officers must be thoroughly knowledgeable of all Department rules and regulations, Department policies and procedures as well as State, County and City laws and regulations within their jurisdiction.
Additionally, the incumbents must know the various procedures of judicial and semi-judicial organizations and/or agencies within their jurisdiction.
Descriptive of these various agencies are:
District and Circuit Courts; (civil or criminal), County and States Attorney's Offices, Juvenile Services, Social Services, the Health Department, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and other agencies.
These officers must possess the skill to question suspected offenders, victims and witnesses and be knowledgeable of the mechanics necessary to perform all police tasks.
The incumbents must have knowledge of all forms and reports necessary to properly record a case.
The incumbents must satisfactorily complete the required training and be certified by the Maryland Police Training Commission and satisfactory performance is required during the probationary period.
The incumbents must be in excellent physical and mental condition.
